]]>Apart from serving as an introduction to the campaign, this launch will be attended by several notable dignitaries and politicians; such as the Hon Minister Carmelo Abela, Hon Minister Michael Farrugia and Former Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi. The format of the campaign will take the form of several day seminars throughout the year.
The first part of each seminar will consist of an interactive, hands-on workshop that will give information and allow for brainstorming for solutions, whilst focusing on soft skills such as critical thinking and debating. This will be then followed by a debate made up of a panel of experts and policy-makers, where participants will be able to apply the knowledge acquired earlier in the seminar and actively participate in the debate.
Vice-President of JEF Malta, Christian Aquilina explains that; “I urge students to attend the launch of our campaign, ’Generation Europe’, as the topic will surely give rise to a fruitful discussion. Moreover, short breaks and a free lunch will also be provided for the attendees. I highly recommend attendance as it is a contemporary topic that needs to be dealt with, especially due to current affairs all around Europe. Make sure you RSVP for this year’s launch as places are limited.”

]]>The newly appointed Executive team is as follows:
The Third Eye team spoke to MKSU to learn more about what the new team is planning for the coming Freshers’ Week. Those who visit the MKSU’s stand during the coming week, can participate in the daily competitions and get the chance of winning a prize. One can also take part in the reflective exercise MKSU is preparing, in line with this year’s theme of ’Our faith can move mountains’, whereby visitors will be asked to reflect and consequently jot down on a sticky note what they believe to be ’their mountain’ for the upcoming scholastic year. Alongside these reflective exercises, one can also be inspired with a motivational quote.
MKSU of course is also planning on offering the occasional treat in the form of pastizzi, rock cakes, buns, muffins and cakes. Also, one can benefit from a goodie bag on subscription to the MKSU database and other freebies, all served with smiling faces and a warm welcome from the Executive team.
The Third Eye team would like to congratulate the new MKSU team and wish them a fruitful year.

]]>The program, which consisted of a carefully planned out balance between social activities and a rich academic program, started off a day prior on Saturday the 19th August with a trip to Gozo. The official week kicked off the following day with an opening ceremony, followed by a night at the beach. Lectures began the following day and were held at the University of Malta.
As part of the Academic Programme, lectures tackled different topics such as Public International Law Aspects of Maritime Law, Ship Sale & Purchase, Registration, Finance and Recycling, Aspects of the Law of the Sea, Irregular Migration by Sea, Salvage, Towage and Collision, Yachting, Taxation of Maritime Transport Activities as well as Claims and Enforcement on Ships.
Apart from the Academic Programme, students also had the opportunity to attend various fun activities throughout the week. The diverse Social Programme boasted activities such as a cultural night, a boat party and a bus party, dinner at the old capital city Mdina, a treasure hunt, a day in Comino, as well as a Gala Night to close off the week in style.
All in all, the week was a great success and the feedback which we received from the students and young lawyers who attended from across Europe was beyond our expectations. This year’s edition certainly upheld the standard of success maintained by the previous two editions of the ELSA Malta Summer Law School on Maritime Law, and we hope to maintain such standard in the years to come. The ELSA network organises ELSA Law Schools in different cities all over Europe, and all sessions are held in English. Any local students who are interested in taking part may approach ELSA Malta for information about upcoming ELSA Summer Law Schools.

]]>The post S-Cubed issues a Report on Cannabis in the light of recent debates appeared first on The Third Eye.
]]>The Third Eye Team spoke to Social Policy Officer, Sandrine Borg about the aims of such a report. Ms. Borg explained how the team behind this paper “ wanted to focus on the research part, why there is lack of it and how this has created problems. We also tried to highlight some of the important research that has been done, including that which focuses on some misconceptions.”
When asked why the science organisation felt that such a report was a matter of interest, Social Policy Officer explained how “We felt this was important as irrespective if one is for, or against the legalisation, they should be aware of the real research that has been done in order not to get confused with the fake science articles we often see on social media.” Moreover, Ms. Borg added that “this was a topic that was brought up during the KPS meetings and as science students focusing on research, it was appropriate to sum up certain things for the public.”
The report on Cannabis points out that around 20% of the younger population make use of Cannabis recreationally. Consequently, the report goes on to explain that if the stigma that Cannabis brings about schizophrenia is in deed true, then given that the drug has been made us of recreationally since the 1960s, one would expect an influx in the number of schizophrenic people nowadays, and this is not the case. Nonetheless, the paper concludes that research has shown that Cannabis contributes to the development of the disease in some way or another.

]]>The post KNZ’s current Executive celebrates One Year since elected appeared first on The Third Eye.
]]>I believe that every Board is particular in its own way. This current KNZ Executive is particular in a sense because it is united under a single aim of working to push forward youth rights and opportunities. We are aiming to always do more activities and widen our activites to reach more youth with different interests as well as work with more organisations which fall under our representation.
This year we have organised a number of events most of which are new to the KNZ executive so it is very difficult to mention 1 event which I believe was the most successful and fruitful. However, 3 events which we have done and I particularly enjoyed from my end were ’Actors of Change’; where we had almost 90 youths in 1 place giving their opinion on a number of topics and the ’National Youth Technology and Innovation Fair’ which was held in Valletta a few days ago whereby youth technological organisations and start ups could showcase their work to fellow youth who attended the fair. Finally, as always we organised the National Youth Parliament which gives an opportunity to a number of youth to come up with proposals about topics they care about which are debated in the Youth Parliament and than forwarded to the President. Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition.
There are a lot of ideas for projects and events in the upcoming years. We are organising ’Raise your Voice’ on the 15th of September which will focus on the topic of racism. We will have artists performing at the events and we will also be releasing a policy document on the subject. Our flagship event, the National Youth Parliament is also soon approaching. We also plan to hold a conference on the results of the EU Presidency. Also we will soon have our planning weekend in which we will plan much more events for the following year. Anyone who is interested in keeping updated with our events should follow us on facebook were we post regular updates about out activities.
The Third Eye team would like to thank President, Michael Piccinino for his time and wish another fruitful year to the whole KNZ Eexuctive.
