We all have those dreaded phone battery problems where as soon as we stop charging our phones before venturing into a night out we already start to wonder when our battery’s going to die. We’ve all been there at some point, right? Well, there might be some hope in the foreseeable future!

An Israeli corporation that goes by the name of StoreDot has developed a battery that is capable of charging your smartphone within thirty seconds.

The first template that has been developed is large for journeying purposes and thus there are plans in 2016 for a slimmer battery release. With smartphone users increasing daily, this is sure to be a worldwide hit.

This concept is based on "nanodots’, which allows for a quick battery charge. Since this is a very fairly new concept, much is to be improved on and the same company hopes for a similar concept toward a car battery which can be able to charge a vehicle in three minutes. So there you have it! This would be a total lifesaver so I’d definitely be one of the first to go ahead and try this out!

The famous technological debate…whose side are you on? It is a fact that it’s a topic of extensive discussion amongst many people and it probably always will be. At the end of it, it all boils down to one’s preference.

Lately, Apple have had record-breaking sales with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus while Google have had a decline, for the first time, in Android shipments (according to ABI research), so at this point, it’s not hard to say who has the upper hand.

However, figures show otherwise. For their first year, in 2014, over a billion smartphones with the Android operating system have been shipped, marking a milestone for Google.

In simple terms, this translates into Android’s future being secure for many years to come. Partly, this is because of Google’s domination in the low-end market since it seems that Apple won’t be starting to drop their prices any time soon. This also results in Apple products being unattainable in developing countries, largely due to the extravagance in their prices and it doesn’t seem like things are going to change any time soon.

Last month, WhatsApp released a new feature where users will be aware whether their messages have been read or not. Some might have easily realised that the grey ticks have now turned blue; indicating that your texts were seen.

This new update has been seen as unnecessary as it will only generate excuses as to why one did not reply as soon as the messages had been read. This implies a sort of impatience here and how people nowadays seem to be so caught up on getting a reply as quick as possible with the emergence of wifi spots and 3G/4G everywhere that it’s "impossible’ not to text back.

Considering Facebook recently bought WhatsApp, this feature has definitely been influenced from the latter. There are also reports that as of next year voice calling will also be available via internet connection, a feature which is already available via Facebook Messenger.

If you’re a student studying Mathematics, or anything related to it, you’ve probably heard of the new app that has been released called PhotoMath. What’s so special about PhotoMath? It’s actually an application that solves equations through your smartphone camera. Yes, you read that right!

You’d think, where the hell was this stuff back when we did our O levels and A levels? Probably, it’ll still be a bit of a disadvantage since students "benefiting’ from this app will find it even more troubling to end up solving problems on their own when it comes to their tests and examinations. But fear not! It is also capable of giving a step-by-step guide as to how the equation is solved, giving the student the help needed when there is no tutor or help available elsewhere.

People will definitely have their respective views on the issue for obvious reasons but I’m sure it’ll come in handy for struggling students out there, one way or another!

PhotoMath is currently available to download on iOS and Windows Phone devices but the Android version is yet to be released.

With the new operating system by Apple having made way onto our Apple smartphones, it is very common for most people to think that there barely was a change introduced from the previous OS. True, there wasn’t another huge visual overhaul as presented in the previous year but certain features have been tweaked pretty nicely and the new features are great, too.

What includes in this upgrade is the new Health app, some works on the camera app with more editing features, a new predictive typing ability called QuickType, Family Sharing, iCloud Drive (being able to share all your music/documents and other files in general seamlessly throughout the rest of your Apple devices) where you can start work on one device and can continue working on another. It is important to note that this will only run alongside the new operating system for Mac called Yosemite (which is yet to be released later on this year). Wi-Fi calling and updates on Siri (now with Shazam integration) are also available on this new iOS.

Personally I do not recommend upgrading if you have an iPad 2 or an iPhone 4S and just stick to iOS 7, at least for the meanwhile since it’ll drain battery life quicker and performs faster than the devices can handle. Although with this being said, there have been individuals who have upgraded to the new operating system with their 4S and everything worked out well so if you’re curious on having the new software installed then go ahead and see for yourself, just make sure to not forget aboutbacking up beforehand (preferably through iTunes)!!!

Probably the news most Apple fans have been waiting for is finally here… the long-awaited unveiling of the iPhone 6 has been announced! *Drum roll* the “big” event is to be held on September 9th and sources claim September 19th is the day the latest edition of the iPhone will go on sale.

As per tradition, Apple generally release their new products every September, and this year is no exception with the possibility of another two iPhones to go on sale; one with a 4.7 inch-screen and another (more anticipated) with the larger 5.5-inch screen. The iPhone 6 (the ninth edition in the iPhone series), like its predecessor, is also to come in three colours: black, white and gold, and will be equipped with the new iOS 8 operating system which Apple had previously announced back in June.

It is not something you see every day that an authentic clothing brand comes into the local market for the Maltese by the Maltese. A new, exciting idea that is coming our way is Recured.; an “urban street wear concept aiming to create fresh new looks in the foreign and local market”, conceived by head of design Robert Ebejer.

When I asked about the inspiration behind this intriguing, contemporary label, I was told that the brand comes together through a weaving set of current trends in the urban street wear market eyed from a committed team of graphic designers. For this brand, the main objective is to be an established and successful name in its home country and be able to compete with other fresh brands that similarly have an innovation in urban culture.

"Recured.’ was generated through a Google word generator, and when I asked for a description of the brand in three words, "be the cure’ was the reply I got.

Ultimately, the anticipation for Recured. is growing steadily. Just like many others, I look forward to seeing what this crew of artistically-inspired individuals come up with. It is definitely a breath of fresh air to see a young team of like-minded fellows with a passion for fashion, and more specifically the arts, to come up with such an inspiring new project.

Recured. officially launches on the third of July while the launch party is to be held at Surfside, Sliema on the sixth at 5pm.
