Yesterday Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM) organised an event on quad.
But it wasn’t a social event or an event intended to raise some funds. Instead it was an event which saw students from different backgrounds unite together for a few moments in memory of another human being.
SDM President, Gabriel Micallef, explained that the news of Frederik Ofosu’s death brought feelings of grief and shock upon him and his executive team.
During those few minutes of silence, where the only sounds I could hear were of footsteps and of car-engines in the distance, I stopped and tried to imagine how a man who risked everything to escape from his homeland would be feeling when being deported back to that country.
But the most beautiful thing is that this time, it was a group of students who held an event in memory of a person who took his own life. This group of students proved wrong all those people who think that students are isolated from today’s reality.
