A reliable source has shared information with the Third Eye that yesterday, Thursday 27th October, a vote was taken by the University of Malta (UoM) Senate in relation the amount of study units and the total amount of ECTS credits that a UoM student may fail in order to remain eligible to sit for resit examinations.
Under the current system, students are eligible for resit examinations if they fail a total of 16 credits in any amount of study units, or a maximum of 20 credits if only consisting in the failure of two study units.
The Third Eye’s source has confirmed that as result of the Senate’s proposed amendment, students who would fail a maximum of 20 credits consisting in more than 2 study units would still be eligible for resit examinations.
As a result of the aforementioned proposed amendment, a substantial amount students, who under the old system would have had to either repeat a year of studies, or potentially even drop out of their course, would be able to take advantage of the possibility of sitting for resit examinations.
Despite initial arguments against the proposed changes, the final vote taken by the Senate turned out to be a unanimous one in favour of the amendment.
