After an excellent first season, where we exceeded all expectations, the University Futsal Team, a brainchild of the Malta University Sports Club (MUSC) and Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU) playing under the auspices of Mdina Knights Football Club, held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday 16th May, in order to conclude this season and kick off the next. At its inception, the committee was not sure of what it was going to face during the first season. The committee, coach and players had no experience in the futsal game; however, with determination and motivation to learn the game, UoM Mdina Knights managed to prove themselves against those teams who already had good knowledge of futsal and its tactics. After a string of losses, partly due to both bad luck and lack of experience, the team managed to rise to the occasion and obtain a respectable 6th place out of 12 against all odds, narrowly missing playoffs.
The committee for season 2015/16 shall be:
President: Warren Sammut
Vice-President: Stefan Cutajar
Secretary General: Jurgen D’Amato
Treasurer: Christian Mallia
PRO: Luca Caruana
Events Manager: Izaak Mifsud
External Officer: Martina Camilleri
Sales and Marketing Manager: Gayle Lynn Callus
Sporting Director: Daniel Balzan
Meanwhile, further to a positive season, Kyle Sultana was confirmed as Head Coach. We also saw the appointment of Andre Debattista as Kit Manager. The outgoing committee said that futsal is growing, and this can be seen in the difficulty one finds when booking indoor pitches for training. Nevertheless, the team is pleased to operate in the pleasant atmosphere and environment futsal in Malta provides. Meanwhile, the elected committee wishes to continue building on what the team has achieved so far. The team believes in a holistic approach to the sport, as a community rather than individuals, and shall keep harnessing this mentality in the seasons to come.
