It was a particular evening for the Knights. In their derby against Msida, they were ahead for practically the whole match, but they were pulled level with less than two minutes left on the clock.
Regarded as a very physical match, the UoM Knights managed to go 2-0 ahead with two goals from Djordje Maksimovic, however Msida managed to equalise to 2-2, before Rodney Debono scored the 3-2 and the two squads headed to the dressing-rooms.
Early in the second half, Debono snatched the 4-2, before Msida reduced the margin to 4-3. Then, Leo Muscat scored the goal which gave the Knights a two-goal margin again. But when the Knights thought that it was a closed match, two goals from Msida put the match to 5-5, just a couple of minutes away from the final whistle.
But sometimes the destiny can be kind towards those who believe until the very end, and just when everyone thought that both teams were going to take a point from this match, a last-minute shot by Leo Muscat resulted in the winning goal for the UoM Knights.
Interviewing him right after the match, Leo Muscat explained that from the very beginning they (UoM Knights) were aware that the game against Msida was going to be a very close and decisive match.
“Mentally, we were very peaceful and concentrated inside the dressing room,” said Muscat. “It’s not easy to win matches like this one, but the maturity we have acquired this year helped us to handle this things in the right manner.”
We also asked Muscat how he feels about scoring the winning goal.
“The name on the score sheet doesn’t matter a lot really. It was all a team effort and the most important thing is that we won this match,” concluded Muscat.
