Christmas is meant to bring happiness and joy, together with wonderful moments with our loved ones, but as University students, we might think twice about such a statement. Thinking about Christmas barely gives us that warm fuzzy feeling inside or excitement that we cannot contain anymore. Rather, coming across posts on social media that Christmas is approaching only means that exams are just round the corner to us.
Now that Christmas is less than two weeks away, we start noticing that people have decorated and lit up their homes, yet, we have a limited amount of time to do the same. Instead, we are racing against time to finish the several assignments which we are assigned to do during such a merry season, in order to finish them to find time to study for the exams.
What also breaks my heart is the fact that while our beautiful capital city bursts into life with colourful street decorations and carols playing in the background, we can barely find time to go Christmas shopping. And what about all the Christmas deals and sales we will be missing out on? Let’s not even go down that road.
Being a person with a strong sense of wanderlust, the toughest test I have to go through is not being able to travel to some dreamy northern destination and experience a White Christmas. Of course, this will be possible if we study beforehand but the stressful thought of exams lurking at the back of my head would not allow me to enjoy a holiday.
Trying to be as optimistic as possible, one should not forget that there are still plenty of fun things to do while stuck at home that will help us get in the Christmas spirit. For instance, we should be grateful for the glorious invention of online shopping 24/7, which is a brilliant therapy during such a gloomy period. We can also spend a well-needed study break baking some delicious Christmas-themed goodies.
We ought to realise that such a time when we miss out on so many amusing activities should motivate us even more to get things done so that we can enjoy this festive season to the full.
We can also end a long day of study by watching a classic Christmas movie or maybe organising a FIFA night with friends or cousins. After all Christmas is all about bringing us closer to our loved ones, no?
Besides, having exams doesn’t mean you have to lock yourself down 24/7. Going out once in a while would definitely not be of any harm. A fun night out would probably be beneficial for us as it would relieve us of stress for a while.
