The University of Malta has published their Reopening Plan for the Academic year 20/21. We have compiled the main points from the document into a brief list for your perusal.
General
- University to open on 12th October for continuing students, on 19th October for Year 1 students [full academic calendar here]
- 5th October for Faculty of Dental Surgery and Faculty of Education continuing students. 9th November for Year 1 MD, MDS and courses with limited numbers.
- A limited number of lectures will be delivered on campus, others will take place remotely online
- Protocols will be issued separately by individual Faculties/ Institutes/ Centres/ Schools, and Junior College where necessary.
- Priority for in person (face-to-face) lectures must be given to First Year students
Attendance of Lectures
- A system may be adopted where classes are split into 2 groups, with one group attending remotely (online) and another in person
- The maximum number of students allowed in the space depends on physical distancing measures.
- This system may also serve to accommodate students who may not be able to attend classes in person (e.g. Gozitan or International students)
- There will be lectures that fully take place online, and this will be an option for any lectures throughout the year, in case the COVID-19 situation worsens at any point.
- Study-units requiring use of laboratories, clinics, studios etc. will, as far as possible, continue to take place on campus or at other venues as usual.
Mitigation
- Physical distancing: 2 metres distance between staff and students during brief encounters/meetings anywhere on campus. 1.5 metres distance between students’ desks.
- Maximum number of students in each class will be indicated on the door. Outdoor classes may also take place.
- Use of masks is obligatory in closed spaces and is strongly recommended anywhere at any all times when interacting with others.
- Sanitising stations have been placed at the entrance of buildings and near lecture venues.
Other measures
- Library: students will have their temperature checked upon entrance, and any returned books will be kept in quarantine for 3 days
- Canteen: students are obliged to disinfect their hands upon entrance, be in groups of 10 or less, wear their masks whenever they are not sitting down.
