Last weekend (6th to 8th November) marked another successful year for The Architecture Student Expo. An event organised by SACES, which celebrates all the work done by the Faculty for the Built Environment.

It gives students; from Diploma to Masters and Doctorate levels, an important platform for “their work and research to be transformed into a resource for our island’s policymakers and planners.”

Craig Bonello, SACES’ current President told us, “The expo serves to show the public that students graduating from the course are capable of producing fantastic architecture which heavily contrasts the current state of the industry.” (I guess this means we should be expecting some wonderfully drastic architectural changes from our freshly graduates in the years to come!)

Showcasing student’s work beyond campus grounds helps to extend the Faculty’s reach beyond their little bubble. Craig carried on telling The Third Eye, “we are rather cut off from the rest of campus, and seeing how we are in the course together for 6 years it’s only natural that we tend to gravitate towards each other. However, this means that a lot of the public isn’t really aware of what we do as a Faculty, and I feel that the Expo really helps to shift the publics perception of the profession.”

So, think of the Architecture Student Expo as an ice breaker for the entire student body and an eye opener for the general public on the topic. But, the motives of this expo exceed the basic showcasing of students’ ideas, works and innovations according to Craig. It is also sending out a message to stakeholders in the industry, particularly developers and investor, that “there is more than just the basic contemporary cereal box design that we’re seeing dominate our streetscapes. The expo is an outlet to display that the problems with our current construction industry is not based on our capabilities but due to the lack of resources and old mentality that dominates the industry”, Craig continued to tell us.

Like all other things, the pandemic had a huge impact on the way the expo was done this year. In contrast to last years event, sadly SACES was unable to host an opening night. This was a pity, as it would have been nice to have a large-scale event with all professionals in the field under one roof. However, the situation is what it is, so they had to limit the number of people inside the exhibition space at all times to reduce the chances of transmission. This year they also developed a website with all the works available digitally, which in certain ways worked out better for the Faculty, as it really increased the public’s access to the exhibition.

Craig left us with a comment for the student community, regarding the current climate of rampant development in Malta:

“I think that the most important thing is to be sensitive to what is happening around us. It’s important to notice things, question them and speak out. An active student community is always beneficial and could really challenge decision makers. Apathy is the enemy of change, and if we want change it has to start from us.

Feel free to check out their virtual expo from here!

Trust me, all of us wish for you to get exposed for your dirty little secrets you little minx but, instead, you have the opportunity to be educationally exposed to a number of big brand companies and professionals at this year’s KSU Careers Expo!

Yes! It’s happening again and not only that, but KSU has also arranged the possibility for you to sit for interviews right ON THE SPOT!

You would not believe the line-up that our student council has set up. The list ranges from Mamo TCV Advocates, one of Malta’s leading law firms, to our financial regulator MFSA, to RE/MAX and even eCabs will be there, our favourite carers after a memorable night out.

This year’s theme for the Expo will be ‘From Ambition to Achievement’ as this initiative seeks to bridge the gap between the student body and their future bosses by physically bringing these companies as well as professionals to the students.

The concept of the Pavillion Café shall reign in this year’s Expo. This concept will ease the tension all of us will be feeling as we shake hands with our future Michael Scott or Miranda Priestly, who knows.

This is because students will have the opportunity to meet these business giants over a cup of coffee which KSU will be offering along with snacks throughout the event. KSU insists on cultivating a setting for conversation during the totality of this event.

This Expo will be held on University grounds between the 3rd and the 5th of March. If you want continuous updates on the companies which will be present during the Expo head over to KSU’s Facebook page or just search for The KSU Careers Expo 2020 on Facebook!

Should you be unavailable to attend interviews on the days of the Expo, you can send us your CV on education@ksu.org.mt and KSU will forward it to the companies you are interested in.

ICTSA is pleased to announce that the 6th edition of the Industry Expo will be taking place on Thursday 24th October 2019. The Expo is being organised in collaboration with the Faculty of ICT where 25 companies are set to take part.

This year’s ICTSA Industry Expo promises to be the biggest opportunity yet for students undertaking any ICT related courses to discover new companies and get insight on what they offer, learning first hand from the experts who power the fields.

Moreover, attending companies will be demonstrating their business operations and the technologies they utilise while explaining available and prospective vacancies and trends.

This also serves as a great opportunity for the students to survey the commercial aspect of the current career landscape, network with their potential future employers and most importantly find their career path!

The Expo will take place at the Faculty of ICT’s Lower Lobby (Level 1-), University of Malta, from 11:00 till 18:00, and is open to the public especially to those students studying in ICT or related fields. Activities such as the Industry Expo fulfil ICTSA’s mission to bridge the gap between students and industry.

Check out how the business, the students and ICTSA reacted to yesterday’s annual Industry Expo.

The Businesses

Congrats to all the students who attended! Your enthusiasm, eagerness and informed questions were duly noted. That said, the gist of feedback from businesses was a wide appreciation for all the enthusiasm and informed questions supplied by the attendees.

The Students

To those that didn’t go – you missed out on freebies! At least that’s partly what the students we asked noted. Those present also commended the event as a great opportunity for networking and just getting general information about companies you might potentially work with.

ICTSA

Year after year the students don’t disappoint. ICTSA praised this year’s expo as a record turnout that even exceeded their expectations! That was not to mention the businesses that provided a quality first-hand experience for all the visitors.

ICTSA also personally commented on their event and expressed their gratitude for another successful Industry Expo!

Today ICTSA held the 5th edition of their ICTSA Industry Expo, together with the Faculty of ICT, where the event took place. Here a record number of attending students visited over 20 companies and learnt about what they offer to the industry. Students had the opportunity to get insight on what each company offers, learning first hand from the experts who power the fields. This served as a great opportunity for students to survey the commercial aspect of the current
career landscape and to network with their potential future employers.

ICTSA would like to thank the participating companies who took their time to exhibit their work, as well as all the students who attended and interacted with the companies. This event wouldn’t have been possible without the continuous support of the Faculty of ICT.

ICTSA is proud to announce that the 5th edition of the Industry Expo will be taking place on Thursday 18th October 2018.

With around 25 companies and organisations set to take part, this year’s ICTSA Industry Expo promises to be the biggest opportunity yet for students undertaking ICT and ICT businessrelated courses. The Expo is being organised in collaboration with the Faculty of ICT and serves as a great opportunity for students to survey the commercial aspect of the current career landscape and to network with their potential future employers. Attending companies will be demonstrating their business operations and the technologies they use, while explaining available and perspective vacancies and trends.

It has also been confirmed that MEP Therese Comodini Cachia will be present at the Expo at 12:00 pm.

The Expo will take place on Thursday, October 18th at the Faculty of ICT’s Lower Lobby (Level 1), University of Malta, from 11:00 till 17:00, and is open to the public especially students studying in ICT or related fields.

As ICTSA, we believe in building dynamic and holistic teams made up of individuals from various academic backgrounds and specialties. This serves them in the short term for the various activities and initiatives we organise, and more importantly in the long term where these developed soft skills and talents are then used at the workplace. Activities like the Industry Expo fulfil our mission to bridge the gap between students and industry.

The ICT Students’ Association is a registered Voluntary Organisation representing University of Malta and MCAST University College students reading a Bachelor’s Degree pertaining to Information and Communications Technology. The close relationship between Academics and ICTSA helps the association organise quality events all year round. The association is often the first point of contact for students who have issues they wish to raise.
