The Better Together Human Library

Just like books, there is a story in every person – a story that is unique, authentic and different. People tend to judge books by their cover, which is what “Better Together” is all about – raising awareness about discrimination and prejudice, and instead promoting empathy and inclusion. Betapsi Malta will be organising an online event involving three speakers who will talk about their personal experiences.

Philosophy at the interface with technology and AI

Philosophical inquiry is concerned with technology, be it the apparently simple technology of writing or the complexities of emerging technologies. Human interaction with technologies, from various apps and social media to smart classrooms and robots, will be the focus of this conversation with Enrico Panai (University of Sassari), a specialist of human interaction with information and author of Skip! 

This event is in collaboration with the Philosophy Department at the University of Malta and the Students’ Philosophical Society (SPS).

Drawing on the reflexivity of the photographic medium, Pluta uses images, video, objects and sound as the foundation for this new exhibition, ‘Variable depth, shallow water’. The installation’s key material includes corrupted data filmed using a drone lost at sea and subsequently retrieved.

Light is Time Thinking About Itself speaks about landscapes without the presence of humankind. The artist Antje Liemann takes our recent lockdowns –with their home-isolation ad absurdum – as the starting point for imagining a differently calibrated world, looking forward to the possibility of the end of humankind’s domination over the earth.

The Last Shift

The Screening of ‘The Last Shift’ hosted by Spazju Kreattiv.

Stanley (Richard Jenkins), an aging fast-food worker, plans to call it quits after 38 years on the graveyard shift at Oscar’s Chicken and Fish.His last weekend takes a turn while training his replacement, Jevon (Shane Paul McGhie), a talented but stalled young writer whose provocative politics keep landing him in trouble. These two who share little in common are brought together through circumstance. Stanley, a high school dropout who has watched his life pass by his drive-through window, proudly details the nuances of the job.While Jevon, a columnist who’s too smart to be flipping patties, contends their labor is being exploited. A flicker of comradery sparks during the long overnight hours in a quiet kitchen.

S-Cubed, alongside Spazju Kreattiv, Malta Chamber of Scientists, and CineXjenza will be organising a film screening of Icarus.

In this hidden Russian conspiracy, the Russians were fueling themselves with performance enhancer drugs under the head of the Russian anti-doping laboratory’s own watch during the Olympics. The doctor claims that this was ordered as well as supervised by the country’s leaders, Vladimir Putin’s name was put in the picture. The title of this film is a reference to the tale of Daedalus and Icarus but has a more geopolitical and international aspect.
