Presidential Comment

I am beyond thrilled and deeply honored to have been elected as the new president of ASCS, representing FEMA students at the University of Malta. This year will undoubtedly be challenging, but I’m excited to work hard and overcome any obstacles that come our way. I’m confident that our hard work will lead to newer and bigger opportunities, not just for ASCS but for all FEMA students. My main goal is to build a strong community amongst our students, where everyone feels welcomed and supported. I want to be someone that people can easily approach to voice their concerns and ask for help, wherever and whenever they may need it. I am excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to see what we can achieve together

Kristina was the only candidate contesting for the role, however, a vote of confidence was held during the commission meeting, which saw Kristina secure the approval of the Commission.

Who is Kristina Micallef Pulè?

Kristina is a third year Psychology student at the University. Due to her background in Psychology, Kristina understands the importance of shedding light on issues related to mental health and wellbeing.

Apart from being a student, she has also been active in student activism for the past two years. She was Betapsi’s Social Policy Commissioner for two consecutive terms.

This role has taught me a great deal and has allowed me to develop many interpersonal and professional skills throughout my university experience. The skills acquired that I value the most from my experience are those related to group membership and management. I have learnt how to host meetings, delegate work accordingly, and initiate and manage group discussions.

Kristina on being Betapsi’s Social Policy Commissioner

Kristina applied for the role of Social Policy and Education Commissioner within KSU because she wishes to continue being a voice for the student body and to stand up to what the students believe in.

Kristina concluded with the following:

Furthermore, forming part of the council is a privilege that I will not take lightly, and aim to continue representing and defending students’ rights to the best of my ability.

The Third Eye wishes Kristina the best of luck for her upcoming term!

Meet the Executives for the year 2021\2022:

President– Ethan James German
Secretary General– Giorgio Grigolo
Treasurer– Luke Collins
Public Relations Officer– Marietta Galea
Events Manager– Maria Aquilina

Presidential Comment

Historically, the main goal of the MMS has been to promote informal discussion of mathematics and mathematical sciences. We have been striving to build a community of people who actively take part in mathematics. We are aiming to fill next year to the brim with talks, lively discussions, and debates, all with the goal to make advanced mathematics more approachable to a broader audience.

President Ethan James German

All About MMS

The Malta Mathematical Society was formed in 1998, with the first general meeting was held on January 5th, 1999.

After nearly a decade of inactivity, plans to reform the society were set in motion by a group of students, most notably by Mr. Luke Collins, Mr Jake Xuereb and Mr Xandru Mifsud, with the guidance of Prof. Joseph Muscat.

Through 2021 the ad-hoc committee consisting of Luke Collins, Jake Xuereb, Xandru Mifsud, Ethan James German, Giorgio Grigolo, Adriana Baldacchino and Juan Xerri worked on many outreach projects and worked towards formalising the society.

Their Mission

The aims of the society is to encourage the (informal) discussion of mathematics and to foster a community of people interested in mathematical sciences.

And they are here to Conquer !

Waleed is the First International Student to do so and has had experiences as International Student Association (ISA) ex-President. The new team consists of the following 5 members:

President: Waleed Alhweeshel

Secretary General: Julia Falzon

Content Manager: Martina Farrugia

Media Officer: Matthew Schembri

Brand Marketing Manager: Miirko Sant

The New president Comment:

The New President has this to say after the AGM:

” In the last couple of weeks, I have had the chance to meet, converse and discuss with the previous executive team about the essence of The Third Eye and what it meant to be a student media organization in UM. During which I have seen and experienced how much the previous executives have worked on The Third eye and what The Third Eye meant to them. I can’t help but be moved by such dedication and effort put into this passion project and how each one of them has put part of their soul into it.

I feel honored and optimistic about being given the chance and trust by the previous executives to carry on this part of their student life and we can’t wait to put our touch and soul into it. We will not shy away from continuing building on what they have already built using our own unique personalities and touch. So keep your Third Eye open for us!”

The New executive will keep on growing as there are still vacancies waiting to be filled !

The new Executive Board is eager to get to work and implement their own ideas within the organization!

The KSJC debate between the two organisations has become a staple event for The Third Eye. It is an annual tradition where the students witness both organisations engage in a heated discussion about their respective manifestos.

It is an event that multiple JC students look forward to every year but unfortunately, that tradition was broken. Both SDM and Pulse were contacted but Pulse decided not to participate.

The Third Eye went to great lengths to find a time that accommodates both parties, communicating with both presidents at all times. The debate was planned to take place on the 10th of November at 6PM, two days prior the election. Pulse was the one who suggested the debate be moved to 4PM, indicating their initial interest.

Isaak Koroma, Pulse President, was contacted again for confirmation and he stated that Pulse is unable to attend due to other commitments and activities planned for the day, leaving them no time to participate in the yearly debate.

Their refusal to participate halted the planning, leaving members and students alike baffled as to why the debate was not yet announced and why it is not taking place. SDM released a statement after we contacted them that due to unforeseen circumstances, the debate will not take place.

The Third Eye would like to point out that both organisations were contacted as soon as the manifestos are out, which is what the organisation does every year. We are an unbiased organisation and we are saddened that it turned out this way.
