Just one day to go for the first performance of the KSU Students’ Fest, The Third Eye’s Adrian Attard held an interview with the KSU’s Culture and Entertainment Officer, Gayle Lynn Callus, who amongst other things discussed his role in this year’s production and also spoke about some aspects of the production.
It’s that time of the year again where students from different faculties and organizations come together. First of all, how are rehearsals and preparations going?
It’s a very hectic period; we have rehearsals nearly every day. With a large cast it’s very difficult for everyone to rehearse all at once, and let’s face it: not all of us are theatre oriented! But overall we are on track.
A year ago you played the role of Pumba in the KSU students’ Fest. This time round, you have the role of Culture and Entertainment officer. Does this year’s role hold more responsibility for you?
It’s a different kind of responsibility. In reality you have your hands on everything that’s happening apart from the fact that you need to coordinate everything: bookings, permits, making sure everyone’s okay and also making sure that the quality of the production is that of a high standard.
Can you give us a brief description of the storyline?
We will be keeping to Disney’s storyline; however there will be various twists here and there.
Apart from performers, there obviously other people who will be taking care of things such as costumes, set-designing and other stuff. Can you give us an estimation of the number of students who are participating?
Over 200.
The sub-heading is “Citta di Nanza”. Is this a hint that political satire that will be one of the ingredients in this production?
There will be some bits here and there, however all I can say is the production entails a mix of everything.
Some people claim that they do not like theatre performances; why should these people consider attending this event?
The whole show involved a lot of different items making it attract all kinds of people. I’m sure there’s something for everyone’s liking: be it singing, dancing, acting etcetera. The fact that it’s a well known Disney story makes it easier for the audience to relate to the overall plot and characters however with some twists from our end, the audience can surely prepare themselves for a night to remember.
One of the themes of this event is Greek Mythology. Is there a Greek god that you identify with? And why?
Definitely not Hypnos – God of Sleep. I think that pretty much explains it!
In the past years, KSU Students’ Fest has always been a successful event. Are you aiming to make it a bigger success this year?
Sales are doing well however we must keep in mind that during the same weekend there are a lot of activities and different performances are going on. However from our side things are looking really good! With this year’s cast I honestly think that we can take things a step further.
