Stephen Florian resigns from UoM, following transphobic comments

The University of Malta has accepted the resignation letter submitted by Dr.Stephen Florian, who occupied the position of  a part-time visiting lecturer.

The resignation is the fruit of what was considered by  many as xenophobic and discriminatory comments on the part of Dr.Florian, regarding the lecturer’s comments on  a University student’s identity.  Dr.Florian apologised publicly for his actions and it is in the light of his apology that the University accepted Florian’s resignation with immediate effect.

In a Press Release issued by the University of Malta, it was emphasised that it is an accademic place educating thousands of students per year, which come from over 90 different countries. Therefore, the University is in itself an institution which embraces diversity and it is due to this principle that such actions are unacceptable.
