SDM’s Disapproval of Late Revision of Paper Results

In a statement issued on Facebook yesterday evening, Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM) expressed its concern regarding this year’s Ordinary Level and Advanced Level revision of paper results. SDM stated that, “[h]aving also done the resit examinations without knowing the outcome of the revision of paper, and being just three weeks away from the start of the scholastic year, multiple Olevel and Alevel students have expressed their disappointment that these results haven’t been issued yet. For many of these students, the coming weeks will determine their future in Post-secondary and Tertiary education.” Subsequently, SDM called on MATSEC to issue the results.

Following the publication of SDM’s statement, The Third Eye contacted the organisation’s President, Luke Muscat, who commented that it is unacceptable that so much emphasis is placed on education in 2015, stating that if one fails to pass an examination it is important for one to strive to reattempt the examination and always be headstrong. Moreover, it is unacceptable that the results of a revision of paper are issued only a couple of days prior to the resit, or even worse, after the resit has already been attempted, resulting in an uncomfortable position experienced by students who feel that they are caught in between MATSEC’s poor handling of the situation. A revision of paper is a tool for students to use to determine whether or not they deserved the mark that would have been given and what they could have done better with the aim of improving their performance. If the results are published right before or after the resit then the revision of paper does not fulfill its aim and the situation is utterly unacceptable.
