After it was announced that fees for MATSEC examinations will increase, tonight, student political organisation SDM released a statement expressing its concern at this news. In this statement, SDM explained that this will probably have a direct effect on those students who will be applying for their MATSEC examinations. SDM mentioned, that the present government should focus on how to increase the number of students who will be sitting for their MATSEC examinations.
“It is without doubt public knowledge that many students and their families make lots of sacrifices in order to be able to afford going through our educational system, and this new regulation will simply result in having more students opting out of continuing their studies,” suggested SDM’s statement.
Speaking to The Third Eye, SDM Secretary General, Ian Zahra, said that the organisation is preoccupied by the large number of complaints and comments that have been received from students who will be sitting for their examinations this May. “We are determined to take any step necessary to make sure students are not affected negatively by any decision such as the aforementioned,” concluded Zahra.
