Earlier today, Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM) delivered a press conference at University Gateway regarding yesterday’s post from MATSEC, announcing that results will be published at the end of this month.
After acknowledging the respective media houses for attending the press conference, SDM’s President, Luke Muscat, explained that late publication of results from MATSEC has become a yearly phenomenon. He insisted that it is unacceptable that some students do not know which school they will be attending with only a few days to go for the beginning of this academic year.
SDM’s Vice President, Ian Zahra, recalled a press release by SDM in 2013 regarding the late publication of resit results, another one on the 26th of September 2014, regarding the same topic, and an additional one which concerned higher examination fees. Zahra added that despite SDM’s effort, the same problems occurred again this year. He deemed this to be unacceptable, especially when one bears in mind that students were bound to pay higher fees for examinations.
In conclusion, SDM proposed that MATSEC should re-examine its system of the publication of results, listen to students’ concerns, and set a deadline for the publication of supplementary session results (September exams) along the lines of the University of Malta Collective agreement.
Finally, SDM encouraged MATSEC to increase its communication efforts with institutions such as Junior College, MCAST, Higher Secondary, ITS and Sir MA Refalo Gozo.
