SDM and Pulse stand up for those still awaiting Matsec results

As one might have figured out from all the traffic, this morning thousands of Maltese students returned back to school to start another scholastic year. However, not every student has their mind at rest, as numerous Maltese students are still waiting for Matsec to publish exam results.

Today, SDM and Pulse both expressed their disappointment towards Matsec for letting history repeat itself year after year, in failing to deliver the results of the September session in a reasonable time.

Both student organisations argued that it is very unjust for students to be kept in the dark regarding their educational future. Fleur Abela, Education Coordinator for Pulse, has corresponded with Mr Pirotta from Matsec via email, so as to inquire when the entity plans on publishing results, especially since sixth form and University have already started, or will be starting in the coming days.

On the other hand, SDM’s Vice-President, Gabriel Micallef described this situation, whereby students do not know whether they are to be accepted as University students or not,  as shameful and unjust.

SDM’s  call is  not only for Matsec to publish results as soon as possible for the benefit of the students, but to also ensure a better system whereby results in the future can be published without unjust delay. In addition, SDM is of the opinion that communication with examination candidates needs to improve.

As a result, in a Press Release, SDM said that as a student organisation, they “believe that the current system is not working in favor of the students’ best interests and thus needs a major overhaul.”

On the other hand, Pulse said that they “shall monitor further developments so as to make sure that you, the students, are fully represented in the best way possible.”

Although earlier today,  Matsec announced that they have published all  O’level results on their Facebook Page,  A’level results are still pending. This lead to countless comments on Matsec’s own Page, all of  which clearly show how disappointed students, as well as their  parents, are especially since they expect a better service in return for all the money they pay to sit for such exams.

Despite all of the complaints, so far, students were only told that “results are being processed” by Matsec.
