Following yesterday’s events, Malta Health Students Association (MHSA) issued a Press Release to inform the public that the president of this organisation, Mr Christoph Schwaiger, was voted out of the association.
This was done by the present executive board members of the organisation according to the statute (article 6.14.1), meaning that two thirds of the executive agreed regarding a no confidence vote towards Schwaiger.
These extravagant measures were taken due to the fact that the president and secretary general could not coordinate well between each other and thus did not put the team and association as their first priority. Also, Schwaiger took major decisions alone without the consultation of the board members. These decisions include Gabriella Sutton’s termination as secretary general. Furthermore, this decision was done without any regard to Sutton’s hardwork and dedication to the organisation. The members of the board were notified at a late stage and hence no vote was performed. MHSA believes in negotiation and a democratic approach rather than the imposition of decisions within the association and thus measures had to be taken.
MHSA is aware that presently the roles of president and secretary general are vacant, however, an Extraordinary General Meeting will be held in the near future and a member from the present executive board will take the above mentioned roles.
