Robin Williams — A Tribute to a Legend

This morning, we woke up to terrifying news; Robin Williams is dead.  At the age of 63, the Oscar-winning actor and comedian left this world and  millions of people mourning over his shocking death.  According to the police in Marin County, California, Robin Williams was found dead today at home.  An investigation regarding the cause of his death is being carried out but law enforcement officials stated that he took his own life.  His media representative Mara Buxbaum said that “he has been battling severe depression of late.”

One of the best stand-up comedians and actors which the world has ever seen left this world all of a sudden.  With a brilliant film career attached to his name, with acclaimed movies such as  Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Awakenings (1990), Good Will Hunting (1997), as well as Popeye (1980), Aladdin (1992), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) and Jumanji (1995), he surely left a mark on the movies industry and on the childhood of many.

His impeccable acting in the all-time favourite, Good Will Hunting (1997), awarded him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.  Apart from this award, he was nominated three times for the Academy Award for Best Actor, he was presented with two Emmy Awards for his top-notch American primetime television programming, four Golden Globe Awards for his excellence in film and television and five Grammy Awards.

It is no surprise that Williams was loved by a huge number of people.  USA’s President, Barack Obama’s statement sent directly from the White House summed up Robin Williams.  The statement read:

“Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between.  But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien — but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit.  He made us laugh.  He made us cry.  He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most — from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets.”

His distraught wife, Susan Schneider,  this morning stated the following: “This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken.”

We are all sure that your genuine soul will keep entertaining  millions of souls up there.  Thank you for all the memories and laughs you triggered through your remarkable range of performances.  Chapeau to a legend! Until we meet again, Rest in Peace!
