Pulse’s Reaction to Maths Intermediate Examination

Following an issue regarding the Maths Intermediate level examination, Pulse representatives Joseph Masini and Fleur Abela held a meeting with MATSEC Chairman, Professor Frank Ventura, and Mr Dario Pirotta from the MATSEC support unit.

Prof. Ventura informed the Pulse representatives that this year’s paper was drafted by the same people who drafted those of the past five years. The questions that students are concerned about might “have been slightly over-demanding, as similar questions have been issued in past papers, however, with a different format”.

While an investigation will be held, MATSEC has confirmed that there are two possibilities. Firstly, that the papers will be submitted for correction to be corrected by the examiners normally. However, particular notice will be given to how students answered certain questions that are being complained about – in particular question 10. Secondly, if the MATSEC Board notices that there is a disproportionate number of students who have failed to answer a common question, it will consider a number of options including instructing examiners to disregard the question completely.

Whilst stating that it has already received a number of complaints regarding Computer and Geography Advanced level examinations, Pulse calls any students who have complaints regarding examinations to contact Pulse on info@pulsemalta.com.
