Pulse Expresses Concern over latest MUT directive Regarding Absent Lecturers

Following recent reports that the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) asked the Junior College Principal not to publish the names of absent lecturers both online and on the screens available on the Junior College premises, Pulse would like to call upon the same union and the Principal to understand the students’ situation.

Why should a student having a lecture in the morning or late afternoon spend the whole day not knowing whether the lecturer is bound to show up or otherwise?

Similarly, this is the current situation that University students already face. Not only is it not fair on the student but it also means that students are using their time waiting for their lecturer rather than using it to study or to take on extra-curricular activities. Two things which students should be encouraged to do.

Pulse understands that some students may fail to show up to subsequent lectures as is the case however the student himself is already being penalized for it duly because if the individual fails to show up for a minimum number of lectures he or she is no longer entitled to the stipend.

In conclusion, Pulse would like to express its dismay towards the recent press release issued by the MUT and accordingly we call upon them to suspend this latest directive. If however, the MUT decides to offer an alternative to this which is just as efficient as the current suspended system then we find no objection for it to be used.
