Press Release: SDM Expresses Discontent with Present Public Transport Service

Throughout the past few days, Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM) has listened to students who have expressed their discontent with the new bus routes which have been introduced by Transport Malta. It is for this reason that SDM calls on Transport Malta to revert the routes back to how they were prior to the 20th of December, when revised bus routes were rolled out

It is distasteful that in a recent press release Transport Malta have claimed that the service has improved. It seems that TM are not listening to the students’ needs, and this was made clear after the general public has expressed itself both verbally and by means of an ongoing petition.

Despite being aware that at present there is an agreement on the need of the bus route X1 to revert to its original route, SDM would like to express that many routes previously serving University students have either been scraped entirely or else have become less frequent.

Having already said so in past statements, SDM appreciates the fact that routes serving Junior College students have increased, however, the organisation believes that the routes serving Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary students together with MCAST Naxxar students should also be increased enabling students to arrive in time for their lectures which may start as early at 8am.

In light of all this SDM insists that students should not be given the short end of the stick and have waited three whole months for the service to improve; in turn SDM encourages students to sign the online petition (https://www.change.org/p/ministry-o…) because together we can make a difference.
