This morning, the Junior Chamber of Advocates (JCA) has issues a statement regarding the recent proposal made by the Maltese Parliament regarding the appointment of the judiciary system.
A well-functioning judicial system is of the essence for any democratic society. The latest bill proposed by Parliament on the appointment of members of the Judiciary is a stepping stone towards ensuring a stable, independent and even more transparent judicial system.
The Junior Chamber of Advocates has been actively involved in discussions relating to the bill from the very beginning. As a matter of fact the Junior Chamber of Advocates has been given the opportunity to present its views in favour of the long-due reform in relation to the appointment of members of the Judiciary earlier this year. In fact, JCA has not only been engaged throughout most of the discussions but has also given concrete recommendations and proposals in presenting a Position Paper to the Minister of Justice, Culture and Local Government, Hon. Dr. Owen Bonnici.
The Junior Chamber of Advocates is pleased to see that such recommendations have been endorsed in the bill presented by Parliament and looks forward to further discussions so as to pave the way forward for the judicial system.
