GUG, the Gozo University Group, held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday the 27th of August at the Ministry for Gozo. The AGM, which was chaired by Shaun Azzopardi, included a presentation of the annual reports showcasing the work done throughout the year, the approval of proposed amendments to the current statute, and the election of new executive for the next academic term.
During the AGM, the previous executive members presented the presidential, administrative and financial reports. This was followed by a speech regarding the work which had been carried out throughout the year, and the importance of student activism. All of the amendments to the current statute proposed were approved.
The last serving President, Joseph Louis Grech, who was elected mid-term following the resignation of Denis Muscat, spoke about his experience within the organisation and the milestones achieved throughout the year.
Changes were also made to the organisation’s vigilance board. Joseph Louis Grech was appointed a position on the board, replacing former honorary member Marc Schembri. Moreover, one of the amendments to the statute included the nomination of two new honorary members to the organisation’s vigilance board. This was proposed in order to support and safeguard the organisation’s work since the majority of the members in the executive for the following term are new to the organisation. The newly appointed members, who formed part of the previous executive, are Joseph Louis Grech, Loradine Pisani and Lauriann Azzopardi.
Since there was only a single nomination for each post, no election was required to elect the new executive. The following are the newly electeced members and their role within the organisation: Maria Dimech (President), Francesco Caruana (Vice-President), Rebekah Marie Attard (Administration Secretary), Jessica Said (Information Secretary), Chloe Portelli (Financial Officer), Andrea Said (Public Relations Officer), Rachel Galea (Events Officer), Anna Sultana (International Officer), Joseph Mifsud (Education Officer), Manuel Xuereb (Social Policy Officer) Luke Vella (Social Media Officer), John Cylde Grima (Marketing Officer).
The AGM was concluded by presenting the newly elected members. GUG thanked the departing members (Joseph Louis Grech, Loretta Grech, Lauriann Azzoaprdi, Loradine Pisani and Deborah Caruana) for their loyalty and hard work throughout their respective terms. GUG also thanked its sponsors for their continuous support.
