Press Release: Futsal Malta Association Appeals to the Authorities

Following the termination of contract with Assocjazzjoni Sports Hibernians for the provision of the futsal pavilion for National Futsal Competitions, the Futsal Malta Association is still without a venue on the eve of the start of another Futsal season.

Despite a whole year of discussion with the government authorities, the situation is still unblocked with Parliamentary Secretary Chris Agius still struggling to find a solution.

Due to the increasing popularity of the game, the Futsal Malta Association, has this year expanded to 30 clubs with the recent inclusion of its Junior Futsal League, and is considered to be one of the leading associations in Malta since its formation 5 years ago.

The Association has never benefitted from government subsidized facilities — therefore paying commercial rates in contrast to other association = and is appealing to the authorities to find a solution urgently before it is constrained to call for all National Competitions. In this respect, the Association is appealing to the government authorities and Sport Malta for solidarity when allocating facilities for various associations.

In a meeting el yesterday, all futsal clubs unanimously endorsed the Association’s position to make this final appeal to the government authorities before terminating the national competitions for good.

FMA is hopeful that a short term solution is found urgently for the good of the game, its clubs, players and sport in general. However, for the long term, a proper evaluation of the current resources is to be carried out and tangible commitment to the development of additional sports facilities is to be undertaken.
