Press Release: ELSA Malta’s Appreciation Night and Launch of the Big 4

ELSA Malta has held its final event for the 2015/2016 term. The Appreciation Night held on the 5th of May was held to thank all the helpers who contributed through their participation and time to ELSA Malta’s help.

The event however did not just limit itself to an appreciation night but saw the launch of 4 big projects. Dr Martin Fenech, the founder of ELSA Malta gave the opening speech of the event.

The first project launched was Project Jurisprudence, a Criminal Law Handbook for First year Law.   The handbook includes criminal law principles explained through Maltese jurisprudence.   The book has been researched and proofread by two teams of students. Profs Aquilina, the Dean of the Faculty of Laws, Dr Stefano Filletti, by Judge Michael Mallia and Dr Felicity Attard, who contributed to the book were all in attendance for the event.   Project Jurisprudence is expected to add two more books to its collection in the coming year which will include a book covering second year criminal law and property law.

The event also launched the ELSA Malta International Legal Translator app, which saw an extension of the already existing app to include over 7 languages. The Project is now being done in collaboration with the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg and more languages will be added in the near future. The app can now be accessed on app.elsa.org.mt as new features have been added and will continue to be added to the website.

Another initiative by ELSA Malta will be the institutional visit to Brussels in the coming academic year which will add to this year’s institutional visit to the Hague. The institutional visits will be added to the yearly calendar of ELSA Malta. Finally the last project launched was the ELSA Malta Travel Fund. This fund will give students the opportunity to acquire funding for their travels when attending international ELSA events.

The Appreciation and Launch was followed with a small reception, where certificates were given out to helpers. The event was attended by representatives from Deloitte Malta, ELSA Malta’s Lead Sponsor, and Gauci-Maistre Xynou, a sponsor of ELSA Malta, along with ELSA Alumni.
