Pulse welcomes the announcement made by Mr Martin Scicluna, Chairman of the National Commission for Further and Higher Education earlier this week regarding the American University of Malta (to be referred as AUM).
Following a 14 month due diligence process, Mr Scicluna announced that the AUM has been accredited and offered the licence to operate as a University. This statement shatters KSU’s press release (2015, December 18th) who at that time preferred to ride the environmentalists’ wagon and was quick to conclude that;
… even though the accreditation was still in process.
Pulse’s responsibility wins over KSU’s
What took 14 months to decide was decided in a matter of hours by the oldest national student council in Europe.
Pulse refused to be part in that press release and in a separate press release (2015, December 18th) stated that:
“Conscious that the accreditation process is still going on, Pulse cannot commit itself by saying that the proposed AUM is actually a University or a Higher Institution.
Therefore, Pulse looks forward to hear the outcome of the accreditation process from the National Commission for Further and Higher Education.”
Even though a number of individuals felt the need to criticise Pulse for not complying to KSU’s initial reaction, the organisation reserves the right to re-emphasize the importance of a varied spectrum of ideas and opinions, whilst appealing to organisations to never be afraid of issuing a unique response in any given situation, even it it means standing alone.
Although Pulse’s decision was dismissed, the organisation is glad that it was responsible in its decision. Time proved right – again.
Pulse augurs the AUM and looks forward to more investment in tertiary education.
