Today, European Studies Organisation (ESO) announced that David Mallia’s application for the role of Public Relations Officer for the coming Executive Board has been withdrawn.
According to ESO’s press-release, this withdrawal was a result of the disovery that David Mallia already occupied a post in another executive board, as the Secretary General of CommA, the organisation for Communications Students. This goes against clause 5.10 of the ESO Statute, which says that:
”Executive Board Members shall only form part of the organisation, without any obligations to other executive boards of other organisations within the University of Malta”.
Speaking to The Third Eye, outgoing ESO President Emanuel Zammit explained that as published in the press-release, ESO is always in favour of student activism.
“However, the statute of any organisation is there to be followed and in the case of our statute, a student cannot apply to become part of our executive board, if they are already form part of a different executive,” explained Zammit. “Thus, as agreed with all executive members, we had no other option but to proceed and withdraw the application.”
