This morning "Front Favur il-Mina’ held a cordial meeting with the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Joe Mizzi and Transport Malta Chairman James Piscopo, to present its vision for a more accessible Gozo.
The Front stressed for all studies about the proposed tunnel between Malta and Gozo, to be carried out without any unnecessary delays.
The Minster reiterated the government position that all studies will be conducted, while Mr Piscopo confirmed that Transport Malta is working with a foreign company to make the necessary groundwork. Mr Piscopo also said that it is expected that by the end of this year, the groundwork and preparations will be ready, paving the way to start the geological studies. Furthermore there is also the possibility that such studies will have already arrived at a satisfactory stage before the end of year, thus given an early indication of what is to be expected.
The Front also expressed its concern on the latest changes to the X1 Route, which is the only express route from Cirkewwa to the centre of Malta. This route is mainly used by those visiting Mater Dei Hospital, University and MIA. Among other changes, the Mater Dei stop was excluded from its itinerary.
The Minister agreed that the Mater Dei stop needs to be re-introduced. The logistical aspect of such changes will be discussed next week during a technical meeting. The front will remain in contact with the Ministry and Transport Malta regarding any updates on the studies.
