Earlier this morning, The Medicines Authority announced that the morning after pill is to be sold over the counter in pharmacies in Malta. This comes just 24 hours after Gender Equality Malta held a protest in Valletta calling for the pill to become readily available to the public.
Medicines Authority chief Prof. Anthony Serracino Inglott told The Times of Malta that “Our duty is towards the patient and so it’s our job to ensure they receive the best care” and that this decision is in the patient’s best interest.
A number of people have taken to social media to express their thoughts on this decision. Some see it as a sensible decision, whilst others have been angered by the it.
