In light of the recent approval of the Vote 16, a document has been put together with several recommendations regarding civic education so that the new voters can have the tools necessary to think critically and make an informed decision when exercising their right to vote.
Moreover, KSU together with Sixth Form Councils and and Parliamentary Secretary Hon. Aaron Farrugia, hosted a press conference on the topic in front of the Maltese Parliament.
As a result of the joint effort between KSU (representing University Student Organisations) and the feedback provided by Kunsill Studenti Junior College, St. Aloysius College Sixth Form as well as the De La Salle College Sixth Form , a document has been compiled, providing suggestions as to how civic education should be implemented in Malta.
The Council believes it is essential that such efforts are made in parallel to lowering of the voting age to 16, in order for Malta to successfully embrace the introduction of this new constitutional amendment in addition to ensuring its smooth transition into the country. Among other suggestions, the document explains that introducing a compulsory module at secondary level specifically on civic education is fundamental. The document also adopts a comparative study with States such as Estonia.
