Last Thursday, KSU held a press conference at the University of Malta Quadrangle, where it officially launched its new and improved Funding Programme for 2018, with a record amount of €60,000 worth in student funds. Financial Officer, Joseph Theuma, gave an overview of the key changes made to this year’s Funding programme, and explained how such changes will benefit the student:
1. International Opportunities Fund + Research and Resources Fund
The KSU Research & Opportunity fund, as was previously known, will now be split up into two different funds:
- KSU International Opportunities Fund: €15,000 will be allocated for various students desiring to take part in voluntary work abroad, international conferences, exchanges, summer schools, etc.
- KSU Research & Resources Fund: €5,000 will be allocated for students wanting to carry out any type of research project, or, students who wish to embark on an entrepreneurial venture. The stipulated amount of funds will also cover the expenses incurred to access books and other resources not available at the University of Malta.
2. Transport Fund
In collaboration with Malta Public Transport, €10,000 will be made available to incentivise the use of public transport. Students who apply, will receive €55 in credit on their Tal-Linja Card upon having their parking permit revoked.
3. Motorbike Fund
KSU will be allocating a total of €10,000 to be awarded as subsidies to those willing to obtain a motorbike license. Moreover, KSU is also currently negotiating with various motoring schools, so that students could benefit from cheaper motorbike lessons.
4. Culture and Sports Fund
A total of €5,000 will be made available to incentivise and assist financially, University of Malta students who want to organise an event, campaign or initiative related to Culture or Sports on campus, or wish to target University of Malta students as their audience.
5. Equipment Rentals Fund
At the moment, KSU has a number of items available which Student Organisations may rent for free. A total of €5,000 will be allocated to expand this list according to student demand.
6. Campus Improvement Fund
An amount of €5,000 will be made available to actualise any tangible ideas or projects brought forward by students, with the aim of revamping and improving the University Campus.
7. Junior College Fund
A total of €3,000 will be invested to provide KSJC with the means necessary in carrying out the Ta’ Qali and Study Garden Projects. The amount stipulated will also be used to purchase charging bays and equipment for Chrisco.
8. Events Fund
€5,000 will be allocated to this new fund, with the aim of incentivising Student Organisations to hold various academic events on Campus.
Hon. Dr. Clifton Grima, Parliamentary Secretary for Youths, Sports, and Voluntary Organisations, and the Rector of the University of Malta, Prof. Alfred Vella, also attended and shared a few words with all those present.
