KSJC introduces discounts on bike purchases for JC students

KSJC have introduced a green initiative to encourage use of bicycles

The council collaborated with their sponsor, The Cyclists to provide students with a total 30% discount off any bicycles they wish to buy. This 30% total is divided into a 10% discount provided by The Cyclists off of the purchase and a 20% reimbursement by KSJC. The council has allocated €500 for this initiative and so the offer will work on a ‘first come, first served’ basis until the finances are used up. There is also a personal cap for each individual student of €100 (each student can only receive a discount up to €100).

Those interested in benefiting from the initiative are to contact either Kleaven Pisani or Colette Abdilla before purchasing. The offer was announced on their Facebook page in a post where they outlined all the details, terms and conditions. This green initiative comes after two other major green initiatives introduced by KSJC throughout this past year to introduce a Vegan menu at the JC canteen and to encourage use of travel mugs as opposed to disposable cups.

The Third Eye got in touch with KSJC president, Kleaven Pisani to tell us more about the initiative. The council had wanted to prioritise environmentally friendly proposals from the get-go.

As Junior College students, we noticed that there is quite a limited number of students using bikes as their main source of transport… We realized that many students have shown interest in purchasing a bike as their main method of transport. Yet, students would follow up and say that often they find it difficult to find a high quality bike that is reasonably priced.

Pisani said that the main goal with this initiative was to aid JC students in purchasing high quality bikes at reasonable prices. This results in both a healthier and a eco-friendlier lifestyle for JC students. As always, KSJC’s main intent was to help out students, he continued, but this initiative also served so that “[they] play [their] part in saving the environment.”
