Eunice Bonello, who was the victim of a hit and run accident, could have never anticipated what she experienced last Friday whilst spending an evening with her friends at Junior College. A few days after the accident, still with a broken rib and a fractured leg, Eunice Bonello spoke to The Third Eye about her bitter experience.
“It was about eleven in the evening, and together with some friends, I was at the KSJC (Kunsill Studenti Junior College) barbecue. We were waiting for the bus on the new bus stop in Msida,” started the second-year Junior College student.
“Unfortunately, due to the fact that we were a large group, we didn’t all fit on the pavement and so I had to step down. Despite this, I surely wasn’t in the middle of the road like some people claimed.”
“I saw the car slowing down in the corner and then accelerating towards us. Apart from me another two people were hit. However, these weren’t as grievously injured as I was.
“Luckily, I was not dragged on the ground. However, the wheel passed over my foot and the side mirror struck my ribs.”
Asked how she is feeling after the accident, Eunice explained that she is in a lot physical pain. She is taking medicine to decrease the pain as well as visiting a physiotherapist.
“However, despite the pain, socially I feel very proud,” continued the eighteen year old. “I feel proud that I had friends like Jamie Camilleri and Liam Cassar who took care of my wellbeing and also took note of the number plate of the car. There was also an elderly woman who, upon hearing the sound of the accident, got out of her house and was kind enough to bring me a cup of coffee seeing that I was obviously under a huge shock emotionally.
“For some people it might not be easy to understand the negative impact that this experience has had on my life, but I did have plans for the final week of summer,” explained Eunice in anguish. “I usually enjoy my free time with my friends, swimming, going to the gym. Now I can’t even go to work.”
