Instagram Update Puts an End to Cropping

If you haven’t updated your apps recently, it’s probably a good idea to do it now. Instagram has just released its latest update, which adds a feature that you’re either going to love or hate. Once you get hold of the update you’ll realise that Instagram no longer restricts users to its signature 1:1 image ratio, but now supports a range of up to 4:5.

To take advantage of this feature just tap the upload button, select the image you prefer, and then simply tap the new button that has been added to the bottom left corner of the upload screen.

Whilst this development will certainly facilitate Instagram’s user interface, old-school users might not be as enthusiastic about the app doing away with one of its characteristic features. Nonetheless, this will highly unlikely see the death of 1:1 ratio uploads, since square crop still remains the default setting.

The company’s decision with its latest update might be considered as a step towards eliminating other ancillary photo apps that were being used, in a bid to protect its strong dominance as an image social networking app. In other words, the future of the likes of apps, such as NoCrop and SquareNcrop, is far from bright.
