When The Third Eye contacted Gozo University Group (GUG), the organisation stated that it would like to emphasise that none of its Executive members knew that Mintoff was going to call a vote of confidence on himself. The GUG representative added that, “on the other hand, contributing factors to the executive’s vote of no confidence are these kind of conspiracy claims, which were common in the last few months.”
GUG explained that Ryan Mercieca does not form part of the supervisory board of the organisation, but is an advisory member, which is “a position with no power”. The representative of GUG further claimed “this position did not exist before Jonathan himself proposed it during the last Annual General Meeting.” Furthermore, Mercieca has attended only around three GUG meetings after his resignation, as appropriate for a handover.
GUG also called on all media organisations to contact the organisation before the publication of its internal matters.
