GUG Issue Statement on Tunnel Proposal

In light of the recent movement, ’Front Favur Il- Mina’,  GUG (Gozo University Group) released the following statement, “GUG first and foremost would like to acknowledge the movement established by a number of Gozitan students. It is a testament of how much Gozitan students feel the importance of uniting and joining efforts in order to see a better future for Gozo. GUG supports such initiatives fully. Recently GUG conducted a survey amongst over 300 Gozitan students. One of the questions asked was whether or not they agree with the building of a tunnel between Malta and Gozo, to which 75% of the respondents answered yes. One is to note also that 85% of the respondents believe that a ’fast ferry’ service should be provided. Keeping in mind the opinions of all the Gozitan students we call for conclusive studies of the various aspects which affect the accessibility between the islands, both long-term and short-term initiatives. This would put the relevant authorities in a position to effectively take a stand and start addressing this current issue promptly. Meanwhile, GUG will support the initiative set up by Gozitan students as it ultimately continues to show that conclusive studies are needed for action to be taken.”
