On May 7th 2014, the Theology Students Association, more known as Gh.S.T., held its Annual General Meeting. The members present had to wait for 5 long hours before the new executive was elected. Reports of what work had been done through the year were read by the respective executive members. A total of 10 motions were presented to the General Meeting to modify the Statute, hence long hours of discussions and some heated arguments were the order for the day. This shows how much each member respects the association!
The new executive is made up of:
Matthew Pulis – President
Evan Demicoli – General Secretary
Christopher Bugeja – Public Relations Officer
Osmar Baldacchino – Treasurer
Sr Rosette Camilleri – Member
This new executive will be effected after the 11th of July.
All members of Gh.S.T. would like to thank the previous executive members; being Bernard Micallef, serving as President, Jean Gove as Secretary, Benjamin Flores as Media Officer, Matthew Pulis as Treasurer, Evan Demicoli as Public Relations Officer, Anton D’Amato as Zuntier liaison, Bro. Jethro Bajada as Student Organisations Officer, Peter Ellul as Activity Officer, and last but not least Christina Padovani as Educational Officer. These members, together with the rest of the executive, worked hard to give the association an excellent status!
Gh.S.T. is mostly known for its Christmas Campaign, Make My House A Home, when money is collected through the selling of freshly squeezed orange, and selling doughnuts amongst other things. In this year’s edition, over €3500 were collected and all donated for the preventive care house unit, which helps families with life struggles.
Apart from this event, Gh.S.T. is responsible for other events which are very popular amongst those concerned and interested in the area of study. Such events include namely Foundation Day, which this year was a discussion on the Scripture and Social Justice. Three guest speakers were invited from different professional backgrounds. On a similar note, another discussion was held in collaboration with Gh.S.L., the Law Students’ Society, with the title being, ’The Maltese Law and Social Justice’. Another event includes The Aquinas Lectures. This year Prof. John Cottingham, coming from the University of Oxford, London and Reading, delivered two lectures.
ZUNTIER.COM is also a project of Gh.S.T. It is a platform where ideas are put and discussed in a rational way. Contributors vary from lecturers, students, etc., therefore one can expect a good holistic view on the topic being discussed.
Gh.S.T. also organizes other social events such as hikes, BBQs and dinners, for its members.
