ESO Elects its New Executive Board

On Wednesday the 11th of May, the European Studies Organisation (ESO) hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in line with the launch of its new executive board for 2016-2017 at the University KSU Common Room. The executive board, made up of 8 students who are currently studying European Studies, highlighted the salient points of ESO’s hard work this past year.

Wayne Sammut was appointed as chairperson followed by the appointment of the commission with Ian Zahra and Michael R. Piccinino. Subsequently, The AGM started off with the Presidential speech by Emanuel Zammit, which was based on the work done by the executive throughout the year. After the speech, Secretary General, Stuart Bugeja, gave the reading and the approval of a summary of minutes of the previous year, together with the reading and approval of the administration report. This was followed by the reading and approval of the financial report by the Financial Officer, Ryan Farrugia.  

After all the reports were approved, all 14 nominees presented a brief outline of their goals for the coming year, as well as their plan towards achieving them as follows:  

  • International Officer: Rohana Reed
  • Academic Affairs Officer: Martina Pace Gouder
  • Events Officer: Dylan Felice and Rebecca Mackay
  • Public Relations Officer: Miriana Testaferrata de Noto and Claudio Sultana
  • Financial Officer: Edward Cachia and Kristy Schembri
  • Social Policy Officer: Ryan Farrugia  
  • Secretary General: Stuart Bugeja and Theodora Fenech  
  • Vice President: Cody Galea  
  • President: Emanual Zammit and Julia Aquilina

A short time was given to those who wanted to ask any questions based on the agenda or any queries concerning what the organisation intends to do in the coming years.

The election of the executive board took place in the KSU common room, starting with the nominees who casted their vote followed by eligible students from the European Studies course.

All in all, 9 candidates have been approved and elected into their respective roles within the organization as follows:

  • President: Emanuel Zammit
  • Vice President: Cody Galea
  • Secretary General: Stuart Bugeja
  • Social Policy Officer: Ryan Farrugia
  • Financial Officer: Edward Cachia
  • Public Relation Officer: Miriana  Testaferrata de Noto
  • Events Officer: Dylan Felice
  • Academics Affairs: Martina Pace Gouder  
  • International Officer: Rohana Reed

The AGM ended with a speech from the newly elected President, Emanuel Zammit, who declared that he will surely continue to work hard to see the organisation go further as there is always a need for improvement. Emanuel Zammit expressed his excitement about the coming year along with the rest of the ESO team and stated that he will do his utmost to ensure that ESO does everything in its power to makes all European Studies students proud.
