Engineering Freshers’ Meeting

On the second day of Freshers’ Week, about a hundred prospective first year Engineering students had the first meeting in the Engineering Lecture Theatre regarding their next four-year experience at the University, and more importantly, within the Faculty of Engineering.

The Deputy Dean, Prof. Ing. Michael A. Saliba opened the event by giving the students an overview of the engineering course and what opportunities they will have throughout the duration of their studies within the faculty. Administrative Officer, Vanessa Debattista, followed this speech by introducing her role within the faculty as administration, and later touched upon all the mandatory forms that are to be filled in by the new students in order to complete their registration process.

Dr Ing. Pierluigi Mollicone, Erasmus Coordinator for the Faculty of Engineering, informed the students with regard to Erasmus opportunities and how this helps students build their CV.

UESA then closed the meeting by presenting themselves to the students as their representatives and organisation. The organisation’s representatives introduced the students to past seminars, industrial visit opportunities and events such as “Meet your Employer”, where Engineering students meet up with representatives from local industries in a formal environment to be informed of any available jobs and what to aim for. UESA also promoted their successful parties and events such as the annual Live-in and the famous “Annual UESA Special” open bar party.

UESA also have a specialised programme called UESA+ which awards students with a “Degree+” equivalent after attending a number of workshops, seminars and events organised by the organisation itself. The latest event offered by UESA is a skiing trip to Bulgaria which sold out a day after it was released. A faculty tour was also held after the meeting.
