The KE Elections having passed, the so-called proxy saga saw an enduring end up until the education commissioner was elected, Jean Claude Scicluna has shared his thoughts in light of how he tackled the situation last night.
Student representative Edward Degabriele gave his side of the story and it seems that Scicluna has rejected no part of the narrative. A whole run-down of events from yesterday’s election can be found here.
Scicluna stayed true to his original statement that spoke against the invalid proxies and persisted to have a ‘just’ election with no ‘misconduct’. The Third Eye contacted the incumbent education commissioner to give a statement on how the election panned out.
“I am glad the board of discipline saw the light and let the election proceed in the manner I had decided as stated in the letter on my behalf,” Scicluna stated, “which proved to be the best way to ensure a fair result after the late proxy scandal.”
It is only a pity that at an institution like the University of Malta, this firstly required hours worth of a shouting and screaming contest to get the point through.
Scicluna brought up the question of the falsified proxy as well, in hopes that measures will be taken accordingly as to whoever was involved in the misconduct. “I hope the gross misconduct of the falsified proxy votes is not swept under the carpet,” he continued, “rather it should be tackled with subsequent measures taken to prevent this happening in the future.”
Scicluna concluded by thanking all those who were genuinely involved for their time, as well as all those who sent in messages of support and congratulating the candidates.
Finally, congratulations go to Yacopo, and I wish him the best of luck for his term, and well done also to Nico for putting forward some great ideas.
