The recently elected KSJC organised the much-awaited annual event: The Pulse VS SDM Charity Football Match, which was held yesterday, the 14th of December, at the Junior College grounds.
The first game kicking off the event was between Pulse and SDM Junior College students just after 21:30hrs, while the second game between Pulse and SDM University executives commenced right after. Spectators and supporters were asked to pay 3 Euro as an entry fee, while participating players paid 5 Euro – all proceeds collected shall be in aid of "L-Istrina’.
For the first time in a few years, SDM succeeded in winning both games. During the first game, SDM Junior College won by penalties after an exciting and tense game which ended in a 3-3 draw after 80 minutes of game play, followed by an entertaining penalty shoot-out. SDM goalkeeper Adam Benjelloun came out as the match hero after saving 3 penalty kicks.
Game goals were scored by:
- SDM: Jan Busuttil, Owen Magro and Malcolm Vella Vidal
- PULSE: Mattia Zarb, Nicholas Farrugia and Julian Camilleri
In the second game, SDM won with Jake Scerri’s early opener, followed by Adrian Calleja’s double, enough to finish it off with a 3-0 score and secure double victories.
Newly elected KSJC President, Owen Michael Grech, remarked that he is “truly satisfied with this year’s KSJC Pulse vs SDM Charity Match and with the positive turnout of the participation from both main student organisations. Grech remarked that this year’s KSJC also introduced the concept of the yearly shield that will be handed over to the winners as a trophy.
Pulse JC Coordinator, Owen Grech praised the setting up of a beverage check point and mobile toilets, two features that have never been present during the charity match in recent years. He concluded by saying that, “we are truly satisfied that KSJC’s first event since being elected a month back was a total success.”
On the other hand, Jake Scerri stressed how important this time of the year is for SDM, since money is collected in their annual charity campaign for "L-Istrina’, Project 7000, which is now on its fourth year running. Also, on a new initiative, toys were collected and handed to Mater Dei Rainbow Ward this week. “This year, although we had great results at the Charity Match, I still believe that the true winners are those people who contribute to the enthusiasm and give their utmost to help people in need,” he said.
The Kunsill Studenti Universitarji will also be holding their annual Drive-in Cinema next Monday 19th December in aid of "Dar tal-Providenza’. KSJC’s next activity, on the other hand, is the Christmas Ball to be held next Saturday.
