Kris Bajada has just withdrew his ticket for KSU elections. The following is a statement he sent to The Third Eye and also posted on his personal Facebook.
Whilst regretting that partisan politics still features on campus, with red and blue dominating KSU elections, Kris Bajada announced his withdrawal from his presidential campaign. This came after Pulse announced that they will not be contesting as well last week and only a day after SDM’s candidate launch which happened yesterday. In light of this, SDM is now officially in KSU since there will be no elections due to the lack of other candidates to contest for the roles. We congratulate SDM on their succession to KSU, and wish them the best of luck in their work for the coming term.
I have always seen the KSU election as an opportunity to work for unity among students. This election should not be about red and blue but rather a debate on ideas. This is why I offered to stand as an independent and do my part. Regrettably, however, over the past week I have seen that partisan divisions have too strong a hold on campus and for some, the decision whether to run or not is not based on what they have to offer, but on partisan considerations. For this reason, it is with great regret that I have decided to withdraw my nomination for the KSU election and hope to contribute in another manner.
