We’ve all been there. Scrolling down our facebook newsfeed when a single post instantly strikes you. You pause for a second and feel emotional about an issue, be it climate change; human trafficking; or internet freedom.
You watch attentively that short video on YouTube, and read that article on BuzzFeed. Most often, you will like the post, perhaps tweet about it, and re-share it with friends. Some of us go a step further by signing petitions but most often it ends there….we log off and go on with our day.
Yet as we minimise that window, turn off our tablet and put our phone in our pockets, these issues do not end. On Saturday however, we have a chance to do something about it. We have a chance to vote and elect someone who can be a voice in what is one of strongest international democratically-elected institution. We have a chance to demonstrate that we want to go beyond local politics and have a say in European and world concerns.
Finally, we have a chance to make our vote matters by believing in a better Europe and a democratic European Union. The European Parliament should have the democratic legitimacy, and the energy from its members to act on those issues you feel so passionately about. Don’t miss this chance.
