Accepting the Proxy Would’ve Been a “Failure of Democracy” – Jean Claude

With the example of a
proxy which resulted in a blatant lie, then I simply have to stand by my decision not to accept the proxies as they were not sent according to procedure nor therefore could i verify them

Jean Claude Scicluna, Education Commissioner
In the midst of allegations regarding KE Elections and a number of proxies being either denied or falsified, Education Commissioner Jean Claude Scicluna has spoken out about the allegations directed towards him by Student Representative Edward Degabriele and on the falsified proxies.

Scicluna shared a statement exclusively with The Third Eye that has not been posted yet publicly and was to date only shared internally with Degabriele. Scicluna’s full statement can be found at the end of the article.

Regardless of what has been reported as of now, Scicluna had in fact replied to Degabriele regarding both the issue in general and his allegations. Scicluna said that if he were to disregard the statute and standing orders so as to accept Degabriele’s proxy, it would have been a “failure of democracy.”

Scicluna clearly outlined that Degabriele should know what the rules and regulations are for submitting proxies and that the proxy in question should have arrived at the Commissioner (Scicluna) 24 hours prior to the KE meeting.

In more recent comments regarding the proxies being falsified and the election being restarted, Scicluna said that “Starting the election from scratch would be equivalent to validating the questionable proxies.” He continued that as Commissioner he has been encouraging participation amongst the student reps throughout the year and validating these proxies would be disregarding the rights of those that abided to the regulations.

If after my email, which was sent yesterday way before his comment to the media was made, he still thinks I did not reply to his query, then I cant really change his thoughts.
