During the Malta Youth Parliament in Valletta on Tuesday, Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil proposed a railway train to be built which would allow commuters to travel more efficiently.
The Gozo University Group in a statement today, said that it agrees with this proposal as it believes that “not only would it lessen traffic congestion but it would also be a valuable benefit for all of Gozo’s population, especially those who commute daily to work or study in Malta.”
“Due to the present state of Malta’s transport infrastructure, travelling from Gozo to Malta and vice versa, is time consuming and demanding,” said GUG.
“A railway train would be ideal as it would not only facilitate sea transport between our islands, but it would also lessen land transport and traffic congestions, which is another issue for gozitan students who need to reach central Malta on a daily basis.”
“It is a misconception that sea transport is the only main issue the Gozitans face everyday.” GUG added that it “believes that such project would be of a national benefit.”
It stated that, “travel time in Malta, especially during peak hours, is always increasing, ironically when considering the size of our island and the developments we’ve been through.”
GUG concluded by saying that it believes that such project “would be a step towards progression.”
