Have you ever wondered whether our ancestors were any different from us? Well, they definitely were! The gap in the era between the previous generation and the present generation speaks for itself. So is this generation all doom and gloom or is it all rainbows and butterflies?!…Wrong. It’s neither. One cannot pick a side, but rather state the fact that the present generation is truly and utterly different. Or is it?
1. WE ARE BUSY 24/7 — Let’s face it, this era has become so busy that we do not have the time for knitting, sewing or watching too much TV. We are so caught up in our daily routines of school, work & our social life that we tend to have little spare time left.
2. ONLINE SHOPPING SAVED OUR LIVES — If it wasn’t for this genius idea, we would be terribly dressed once we’re caught up in assignments and exam period.
3. ASKING YOUR NEIGHBOUR TO SIT AND TALK ON A WOODEN CHAIR IS NOW WEIRD — Do you remember your grandma sitting outside after 8pm talking to the neighbours? Try doing that now, they would probably think you have gone bonkers!
4. MATERIALISM, WHAT MATERIALISM? – Let’s all confess this now, we have become more concerned with cool brands that we own; who wouldn’t like to own a fancy Audi R8? Or the latest limited edition of Rolex? How about owning the cutest polo shirt with the Jockey on the far right? Well no one ever refused a Ralph Lauren.
5. ANTI-SOCIALISM IS THE NEW THING – We have improved our smart phones and increased our lack of interest in learning about different people by getting to know them face-to-face, by socialising. You do not ask a girl out in a romantic setting. No, you now Facebook her a message or two. You like his photo on Facebook but then don’t smile back when you come across him on Quad. Geez, anti-social much?
6. NO HUSBAND? NO PROBLEM. — Modern times show that a woman doesn’t need a man to prove she is worthy, hard working or loyal. Woman can build a career without the help of a man to make her feel that she can do it.
7. STUDYING IS A NIGHTMARE — School curriculums have become so much harder and too complex to keep up with. Primary students learn things that twenty year olds never did until secondary school – it’s just a WTF moment really.
8. DEGREES ARE PEANUTS – In the working world, having a degree does not make you look smarter unlike around twenty years ago, where it sort of did. More people are reading for degrees and so, Masters and PHD’s give a unique edge to potential employees. This utterly means that this generation is getting smarter in terms of qualifications.
9. WE’RE GROWING UP WAY TOO FAST — Currently, teenagers are growing up from a very young age! A twelve-year-old with an iPhone has become the norm. My hobbies as a twelve-year-old were showing off my cool new scooter and playing in the streets.
