10 Things to do on a Rainy Day

Forget that sun-kissed skin, it’s time to kiss away the sunny days! With winter approaching, and rainy days becoming more frequent, you may feel puzzled as to how to spend your days. Replacing your tanning oil and beach towel with long hours on social media may seem to be boring you to death, but there’s no need to worry. Try one of the following ten things to do on a rainy day.

  1. Clear your bedroom – You’ve probably been putting this off weeks. This is the opportunity to spend some time indoors and organise your belongings. Let’s face it, most of us spend more time at home during the rainy months, so it’ll probably be a good idea to make the place where you’ll be spending most of your time more welcoming.
  2. Play board games – In the world of technology we live in, board games are often put aside for high-tech games, be it the PlayStation you can’t stop hogging, online games that are totally addictive, or computer games that you’ve excelled in. Board games may be a smart idea to gather a number of friends, or relatives, and enjoy a couple of hours together. It’s a great way to bond and doesn’t require stepping out into the rain! As long as the atmosphere doesn’t get too competitive, you’ll definitely have a good laugh.
  3. Organise school or work things – Whether you abandoned all your school material after completing your exams, or have all your work resources running around the house (or in your car boot) after the summer months, it would be a good idea to sort everything out before the new semester gets messy. You’re going to have a lot of new material this winter, so put away as many things as possible, and make space for new piles of books, notes or resources.
  4. Read – Busy months mean putting aside a great novel and forgetting the great adventures that await us on our bookshelves. Virtually every house has at least one book somewhere, pick it up and indulge in another reality. It’ll help you escape your "ordinary’ life, and forget the dull day outside.
  5. Watch a movie – If you’re not a fan of books, you can always enjoy a couple of hours snuggling up in front of your television or laptop. Choose your favourite movie, or one you’ve been longing to watch, and take a break from your daily routine.
  6. Prepare a warm meal – Cooking loses its fun when it becomes a chore, but with the cold wintery days approaching you might be missing warm meals. Remember that soup you loved? Or that pie that tasted like heaven? Get cooking. It’ll kill some time and leave you with an amazing treat.
  7. Experiment with baking – If you feel that you don’t belong in the kitchen, forget trying to get that recipe you heard about on the cooking channel right! Experiment instead. What’s the worst that could happen? Baking is always fun, and if your freshly baked cupcakes don’t taste great, at least it’ll leave your house smelling like a home.
  8. Online Shopping – Don’t let the rain get in between you and your shopping! I’m sure you can find just as many incredible clothing items online that you can find in local stores. The best part is, you’re just in time for the new winter collection!
  9. Organise your photos/albums – Summer might be over, but your phone is probably full of captured moments you will never forget. In a couple of years your phone will be replaced and your photos will probably be lost. Choose your favourite ones and keep them in a special place. There are so many great things to do with your photos. Try making an album online. If you’re not tech savvy, print them out and place them in an album. Add notes and stickers! You may also create your own collage and hang it up somewhere safe. It’ll remind you of your special friends or family every day.
  10. Dance in the rain – If you’re a tad more adventurous than those of us who prefer sheltering from the rain, wear a pair of fabulous wellington boots and step outside. Just make sure you don’t end up indoors with a cold. In that case try one of the nine previous tips!
